Our Story

From the days of the Scythian mounted women warriors, women have flown across open land on the backs of horses. Horses have long been a gender equalizer. Equestrian sport remains one of the only arenas in the modern Olympic Games where men and women compete directly against one another. It takes skill, timing, feel, and judgment to do this work well.

So why, in an industry largely run by women, do our most visible authorities remain overwhelmingly male?

More voices deserve to be heard. There are other ways to manage this industry.

More Than Horse Girls is a six-day, woman-centered equine education series designed to elevate women’s expertise, applied knowledge, and lived experience in this field.

Horsemanship has long been shaped by dominance and hierarchy. Even in thoughtful spaces, authority and visibility still skew male. Women are the majority in the horse world, yet our barns and systems often reflect older power structures.

This week creates space to move forward.

The structure is deliberate.

-Four weekday workshops led by respected women practitioners.

-Four happy hour discussion panels on authority, boundaries, unpaid labor, caregiving, burnout, advocacy, decision making, and navigating male-centered power structures.

Workshops run 12–4 pm.

Happy hours run 5–7 pm.

Topics include:

Balance. Barnyard bullies. Equine relationships beyond training. Decision making. Unpaid labor. Burnout and fear. Nervous systems. Boundaries. Advocacy. Female farriery.

The weekend expands into a two-day immersive clinic on equine relationship building and communication beyond training led by Dr. Emily Kieson, one of equine science’s leading researchers.
